PROJECT ABSTRACT

The project proposes the implementation of a portable diagnostic and therapeutic system for the treatment of diabetes.

In particular, it is proposed to build a graphene-based biosensor which will be in the form of a patch and will measure the concentration of glucose in sweat, and a system of release (patch) of hypoglycemic treatment in the form of nanoemulsion.

These two systems will have control components, which will communicate with a mobile device. The sensor will detect changes in glucose concentration, the smart software of the mobile device will record them and activate the release of the nanoemulsion of the hypoglycemic substance, which will come in contact with the skin.

The goal is a fully automated and non-invasive system, with the aim of freeing diabetic patients from the stress and burden of continuous measurements of glucose levels and thus improving their quality of life.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

DEMIGOD proposes the development of a new innovative diagnostic and therapeutic system which aims at:

The development of innovative materials and methodologies for the production of a sweat glucose detection system.

Recording the glucose measurements from a portable system / device and process its value fluctuation by a smart software.

The development of a patch which will contain an innovative nanoemulsion of hypoglycemic active substances.

The controlled release of the nanoemulsion after a two-way communication with the portable recording system.

The control of biological interactions of both materials and drugs in vitro and in vivo models.

RESULTS

DEMIGOD contributes to the development and application of know-how for the development and production of automated closed-loop systems which aim at better patient management, improved treatment effectiveness, better physician feedback on treatment progress and patient health and in conclusion the improvement of the patient's quality of life.

PROJECT STRUCTURE

PARTNER I

Will develop sensitive glucose bio-sensors using various forms of graphene produced through innovative environmentally friendly techniques and modified with suitable biofunctional molecules and highly selective compounds in the interaction with glucose.

PARTNER II

Will have two distinct tasks: the synthesis of the nanoemulsions of the active substances and the control of their hypoglycemic activity in diabetic rats as well as the control of the toxic action of the graphene nanomaterials that will be used in the construction of the sensor.

PARTNER III

Will undertake the construction of all the electrical devices and circuits required for the implementation of the program as well as the development of intelligent software which will control the glucose detection system and the nanoemulsion release system.

PARTNER IV

Will undertake the detailed control of the nanoemulsion as well as the final development of the standard diagnostic and therapeutic device in collaboration with all the other Partners.
